Alexander D. Makatsariya is one of the well-known researchers in the field of theoretical and clinical problems of thrombosis, including сancer-associated thrombosis, septic shock, systemic inflammatory response syndrome, antiphospholipid syndrome, catastrophic antiphospholipidsyndrome, genetic and acquired thrombophilia. He regularly represents Russia at the world congresses on obstetrics and gynaecology, as well as on the problems of hemostasis.
Over the past 15 years, together with his students, he has published a number of pioneer monographs: "Thrombophilic conditions in obstetrics", "Thrombophilia and anti-thrombotic therapy in obstetrics and gynaecology", "Syndrome of systemic inflammatory response in obstetrics", "Systemic syndromes in obstetric and gynecological clinics", "Antiphospholipid syndrome - immune forms of high-risk pregnancy" "Jointly with Professor F. Chervinak of Cornell University," Systemic, venous and arterial thromboembolism in obstetric-gynaecological practice jointly with Professor B. Brenner, Technion University (Israel) and others.
In 2014 and 2018, he lectured as a visiting professor at Cornell University (USA, NewYork), and in 2014 and 2018 at the University of Vienna (Austria). Laureate of the RF Government Prize in Science and Technology, V.F. Snegirev, L.S.Persianinov.
In 2019, Alexander Makatsariya was the first Russian obstetrician-gynaecologist to be awarded the William Lily Gold Medal of the International Society "Fetus as a Patient". The event annually awards one award to one scientist in the world.
In 2020 he was elected professor of the year in Russia.
