The Sechenov University scientific journal portal has begun operating, and it is available to users.

The ELPUB website now features a portal for scientific journals (PORTAL) published by Sechenov University, designed to promote and increase the accessibility of scientific information published in the journals of its own Publishing Center. The University currently publishes four journals:

  1. Sechenov Medical Journal - a scientific and practical peer-reviewed journal, published since 2010, with a frequency of four issues per year.
  2. National Healthcare (Russia) - founded in 2020 by the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation and the I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University (Sechenov University), published four times a year.
  3. The BRICS Health Journal is a journal designed to bring together authors from BRICS countries and beyond. It has been published since 2024, with four issues per year.
  4. The Eurasian Journal of Life Sciences is an international scientific platform that brings together researchers and clinicians in the field of biomedicine. It was launched in 2025.

The PORTAL offers a unified search function that allows users to search for publications by author or topic in four journals at once. A convenient interface listing new publications and popular articles is already in operation.

Key features and benefits of the Sechenov University PORTAL:

Single point of access: All university journals are structured on a single modern technology platform.

Open science: Full-text open access to articles, which is in line with global trends and increases the citation rate of research.

Convenience for authors: A simplified and standardized system for submitting manuscripts, tracking publication status, and interacting with the editorial office.

Convenience for readers: Modern interface, quick article search, and the ability to subscribe to new issues.

Increased visibility: Concentration of scientific content, strengthening the presence of university journals in the international information space.

We invite authors to submit their articles, familiarize themselves with current publications, and join the scientific discussion on the pages of our journals.

The editorial board of Sechenov Medical Journal will monitor and be the first to inform its readers about new features of the PORTAL.

Sechenov Medical Journal is included in the 1st level of the Unified State List of Scientific Publications

The scientific publication of the Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University has confirmed its high scientific level and entered the top journals according to the Russian Center for Scientific Information.

Based on the expert assessments received,  Sechenov Medical  Journal was assigned the highest level of the Unified State List of Scientific Publications  among 3,120 Russian scientific journals - https://journalrank.rcsi.science/ru/record-sources/details/29921/.

The Unified State List of Scientific Publications   is a system for evaluating and ranking scientific journals, overseen by the Russian Academy of Sciences. The list was created to increase the significance and visibility of Russian scientific journals in line with the goals of scientific development in the country. It will serve as the basis for the creation of the National Citation Index and the National Platform of Periodical Scientific Publications.

Based on the results of the list compilation (data as of September 2025), the Russian section includes:

Level 1 (highest) – 634 journals, including Sechenov Medical Journal
Level 2 – 705 journals,
Level 3 – 916 journals,
Level 4 – 865 journals.

Access to Level 1 of the Unified State List of Scientific Publication  is the logical result of the systematic work of the editorial board, reviewers, and authors to improve the quality of their articles. This is significant recognition of the Journal by a reputable expert organization.

This achievement by Sechenov Medical Journal reflects Sechenov University's overall strategy for developing its own journals and strengthening their position in the Russian and global scientific community.

Sechenov Medical Journal opens reviews

The editorial board of the Sechenov Medical Journal announces a new step towards openness of the publication process. Now the review process is becoming completely transparent. In order to increase the trust of the authors and readers of Sechenov Medical Journal, a decision has been made to publish all reviews of articles in open access - without indicating the personal data of the reviewers.

What has changed?

✔ Open reviews – each article page now has a “Review” tab where you can view the full review history, including all rounds.

✔ Scientific editor’s checklist – authors can now see the article evaluation criteria.

The texts of the reviews are also transferred to the Russian Science Citation Index (elibrary.ru) together with the published article. The personal data of the reviewers is hidden for all users of the Russian Science Citation Index, and the reviewer's personal profile reflects the contribution to the work on articles in our journal.

Why is this important?

  • More transparency – authors understand the basis for editorial decisions.
  • Improved quality – open review encourages reviewers to make more informed assessments.
  • Recognition – reviewers receive recognition of their contribution to science.

Sechenov Medical Journal  is one of the first Russian journals to implement such a degree of openness in reviewing. Want to publish an article or become a reviewer? Read the requirements and write to us. The editors always promptly respond to letters and review manuscripts.

"Ethics of Scientific Communications and Ethical and Legal Problems of Using Artificial Intelligence" at the 13th International Scientific and Practical Conference "Scientific Publishing of International Level - 2025: Development Trends"

Maria Nadinskaia, Head of the Publishing Center of the I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University (Sechenov University), who is also a member of the Council on Ethics of Scientific Publications of the Association of Scientific Editors and Publishers (ASEP), has been selected  to be the moderator of the section "Ethics of Scientific Communication and Ethical and Legal Problems of Using Artificial Intelligence" at the 13th International Scientific and Practical Conference "Scientific Publishing of International Level - 2025: Development Trends".

The conference, organized by the Association of Scientific Editors and Publishers (ASEP), will be held in Moscow on May 20-23, 2025.

Within the section on the ethics of scientific publications Maria Nadinskaia will give a lecture “Who is the author? Problems and possible solutions related to authorship in biomedicine”. Authorship in scientific articles is one of the key ethical issues in the editorial policy of biomedical journals. Guest, ghost, fake authorship, lack of recognition of real contribution, lack of responsibility for the content of the publication, commercial pressure, change of authorship team after manuscript submission - how are such problems solved taking into account international recommendations? The lecture will be based on examples from the Sechenov Medical Journal.

The experience of the ASEP conference will undoubtedly contribute to the work of the editorial boards of the journals published by Sechenov University.
