Education and professional experience

 

Graduated from the Medico-Biological Department of the Second Moscow State Medical Institute named after N.I.Pirogov.

Scientific career started at the Laboratory of Neurochemistry of the V.P. Serbsky Institute of Common and Forensic Psychiatry where he studied the role of alcohol metabolizing enzymes in the pathogenesis of somatic pathology in patients with alcohol dependence.

Worked in the laboratory of the University of Arizona Center of Medical Sciences, Tucson (USA)  as visiting researcher. Topics of the research included toxic effects of alcohol and cocaine on tissues of the body and elaboration of analytical methods for the detection of drugs of abuse in biological samples.

The doctoral thesis was devoted to studies of the pathogenic effects of alcohol and cocaine on the heart and liver.

Pirozhkov S.V. has been elected professor of the pathophysiology department of the Sechenov University for more than 20 years.
