Alexander Nikolaevich Strizhakov was born on February 12, 1937, in Kuibyshev (Samara). After graduating from the Kuibyshev State Medical Institute (1954-1960). In 1963-1965, A. Strizhakov was a clinical intern at the Research Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the USSR Ministry of Health (Moscow). At the same institute, Alexander Nikolayevich is a postgraduate student, after which (1967) he works as a junior researcher at the Department of Operative Gynecology at the Research Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the USSR Ministry of Health (until 1970).
Further professional activity is connected with the First Moscow Medical Institute named after I.M. Sechenov, where he consistently holds the positions of assistant (1970-1975), associate professor (1975-1979), then professor (1979-1981) of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. From 1981 to the present, A.N. Strizhakov is the head of the Department of Obstetrics Gynaecology and Perinatology of the Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University. 

Alexander Strizhakov is one of the founders of the organization of perinatal fetal care in Russia.

Alexander Strizhakov is a member of the World and European Societies of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, an honorary member of the Bulgarian Scientific Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Vice President of the Russian Association of Specialists in Perinatal Medicine, a member of the Presidium of the Russian Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, a member of the Interdepartmental Scientific Council for Obstetrics and Gynecology of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, a member Editorial and Publishing Council of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences.

Editor-in-Chief of the journal “ Gynecology, Obstetrics and Perinatology”, member of the editorial boards of the journals “Bulletin of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences”, “Annals of Surgery”, “Obstetrics and Gynecology”.
